The Frog and The Mouse
A young Mouse in search of adventure was running along the bank of a pond where lived a Frog.
When the Frog saw the Mouse, he swam to the bank and croaked:
"Won't you pay me a visit? I can promise you a good time if you do."
The Mouse did not need much coaxing, for he was very anxious to see the world and everything in it.
But though he could swim a little, he did not dare risk going into the pond without some help.
The Frog had a plan. He tied the Mouse's leg to his own with a tough reed. Then into the pond he jumped, dragging his foolish companion with him.
The Mouse soon had enough of it and wanted to return to shore; but the treacherous Frog had other plans.
He pulled the Mouse down under the water and drowned him. But before he could untie the reed that bound him to the dead Mouse, a Hawk came sailing over the pond.
Seeing the body of the Mouse floating on the water, the Hawk swooped down, seized the Mouse and carried it off, with the Frog dangling from its leg.
Thus at one swoop he had caught both meat and fish for his dinner.

The Pig and The Sheep
By: Shreya Sharma
This is one of the short fable stories about animals for children to read. Once upon a time, there lived a shepherd with sheep.
He used to take good care of his sheep. The sheep was also very happy to be with his master
One day, the shepherd spotted a fat Pig in the meadow where his Sheep were pastured.
He immediately captured the poor pig. Just as the shepherd grabbed him, the pig squealed as loudly as he could when the Shepherd laid his hands on it.
Because of his loud squeal, the shepherd cruelly hurt him.
But in spite of its squeals and struggles to escape, the Shepherd tucked his prize under his arm and started off to the butchers in the marketplace.
The Sheep in the pasture were much astonished and amused at the Pig’s behavior and followed the Shepherd and his charge to the pasture gate.
“What makes you squeal like that?” asked one of the Sheep. “The Shepherd often catches and carries off one of us all the time.
But we have never screamed like you did! You should feel ashamed to make such a terrible fuss about it.”
“That is all very well,” replied the Pig, with a squeal and a frantic kick.
“When he catches you he is only after your wool. But in my situation, he wants to kill me and eat my bacon!"
The Lamb and The Dogs
By: Shreya Sharma
This is one of the popular Aesop’s fables for kids. A long time ago, there lived a little lamb on a farm named Luke.
Luke was very innocent and played all day long with his brother, George.
But Luke was lonely and made friends with the big dogs on the farm.
“Oh, here come my friends. I have to go George!” said Luke.
“Will you go with these dogs again, Luke?” asked George. “Of course, they are my friends,” replied Luke.
“But Luke, they are so big and mean looking. They might take advantage of you or even harm you,” George said, trying to convince Luke.
“You are unnecessarily worried. Nothing much will happen,” ensured Luke
These dogs had come to pick up Luke to visit the neighbor’s garden.
The dogs had heard that there was a lot of food in the farmer’s larder. George tried to stop Luke but all in vain. Luke was already dreaming about the fresh grass.
Luke’s mouth watered. The dogs and Luke set off to the farmer’s larder.
When they reached there, they saw delicious chicken and meat lying there. The dogs could not resist and immediately ran to eat all of it.
They invited Luke to the feast as well. But Luke was happy to see the fresh, green grass. As they began to eat, the two farmers heard the voice and became alert.
Both of them ran towards the larder with a stick in their hands. They saw a group of dogs and started to beat them.
At once, all the dogs ran away leaving behind Luke. Luke started to cry and said, “I have done nothing! I don’t eat meat. Please spare me!”
But the farmers did not listen to him and beat him to his death. The poor lamb had to suffer because of his friends’ bad deeds.

The Rabbit and His Ears
By: Shreya Sharma
This is one of the best fables with morals and animals. Once upon a time in a jungle, there lived a big and strong lion.
He used to scare little animals and hunt them for his lunch and dinner. All the tiny, little animals were frightened of him. But they could not do anything
One day, the lion was eating a goat for his dinner. Suddenly, the lion got badly hurt by one of the horns of the goat. “Ouch!” roared the lion.
“This goat has horns. I don’t like horns.” He became very angry at the goat’s horns and so he decided to show the door to the animals with horns.
“No more horns!” roared the lion. “All animals with horns must leave my jungle,” he said.
“Where will we go?” cried Grandpa goat. “I don’t care! Go, this is your last day in this jungle,” said the lion.
The lion’s orders struck terror among the poor animals.
Those animals who were unfortunate to have horns started packing their belongings and were soon ready to leave the jungle the very next day.
The rabbit was so afraid of the entire situation that he could not sleep for the whole night.
Whenever he closed his eyes to sleep, the face of the fearful lion would come in his thoughts.
When the rabbit had finally slept, he had awful dreams about that terrible lion. It was a long night for the poor rabbit as well.
The next day, all the animals with horns went away from that jungle. All the other animals came to see off them.
As rabbit was going back to his burrow, he saw his own shadow in the early morning sunshine. He saw his long and pointed ears, a terrible fright seized him.
The rabbit immediately packed his belongings and left that jungle because he chose to save his life.
“Goodbye, friends!” he called. “I am leaving this jungle. The lion will certainly make out that my ears are horns, no matter what I say.”
